Mission
Goals, Plans & Achievements
THE FOUNDATION’S CURRENT PLANS
One of the negatives of having a beautiful brand new school facility is the lack of mature shade trees, so…the Foundation has taken on the fundraising campaign of “BE COOL AT SCHOOL.” This project will allow the Foundation to install Shade Covers, Benches, Tables and Umbrellas, as described below, providing students with much-needed protection from the sun and heat during hotter months:
a. Shade Structures:
i. The Foundation is working with a DSA-approved Shade Structures Company (Division of the State Architect) to plan, obtain approvals, and install a functional and visually appealing Shade Covering over the Primary Play Equipment at the east side of the school.
ii. We are also investigating obtaining approvals for a similar Shade Structure over the Kindergarten play equipment, in order to facilitate any future addition there. However, the Foundation does not plan to currently move forward on this purchase, as this has not been identified by Vista Verde as a current priority. If someone wants to step forward and fund this venture, we would graciously accept that support.
iii. Funding for this Project will come from The Foundation, using existing funds and funds raised from the Benches & Tables portion of the “Be Cool At School” campaign.
b. Benches & Tables:
i. Benches & Tables with Umbrellas will be placed around strategic
locations on the campus to create informal gathering areas and respites from the sun.
ii. Funded by donations of families and friends of Vista Verde.
iii. The donation levels will be sufficient to cover the cost of the Benches & Tables as well as contribute to the cost of the Shade Structure.
c. Benches:
i. 20 additional metal Benches like those in the front of the school that the Foundation already purchased and installed.
ii. These benches will be Personalized with a Commemorative Plaque for the donor.
d. Tables & Umbrellas:
i. 15 Tables with removable Umbrellas.
ii. Painted/Tiled with Games and Sponsorship tiles.
iii. Tables to be sponsored by each Grade Level with commemorative tiles.
FOUNDATION-FUNDED IMPROVEMENTS
Since moving to the New School site in 2006, the Foundation has been instrumental in helping to raise funds for our new campus facility including:
- An extraordinary Tile Wall that depicts every child and staff that entered the new school, plus a legacy tile from each eighth grade student who graduated that year. In addition, many parents, business partnerships, and families also are represented on the tile wall.
- State of the art Marquee with the ability to provide up-to-date announcements, student activities, and acknowledgements.
- Increased Lighting and Sound Equipment for the Multi-Purpose Room.
- Supplemental Physical Education Equipment such as portable volleyball standards, primary field soccer goals, kindergarten basketball hoops, and hockey equipment.
- Supplemental Fine Arts Supplies.
- Student Worktables for Middle School Ceramics Class.
- Playground Maps and Games.
- The Blinds in the Multi-Purpose Room, and Shade Umbrellas in the courtyard outside.
- Pots and California Native Plant programs.
- The Kindergarten Garden project, which was done in conjunction with an Eagle Scout program.
